GWT Nation 2023 Cohort Community Outreach

In 2023 at UGIP Foundation, we focused on one of our core pillars: the mentoring pillar. In the mentoring pillar, we worked with young people from 3 countries over the course of 12 months, equipping them with resources to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society as well-rounded individuals.

The GWT Nation 2023 mentorship cohort went on an outreach to give back to the community and put a smile on their faces. In partnership with The Buluzo Foundation, we carried out the Pad A Girl Initiative, reaching 107 girls in 4 secondary schools in Lagos State. The PCOS awareness training and pad distribution was a success. We are thankful to our stellar community leaders who excellently led this initiative.

Train Them Young Initiative (#2TYI) in Magboro

In the summer of 2022, the Train Them Young Initiative was implemented at the Dolly Children Foundation’s annual Summer Camp. For this edition, we decided to carry out research to properly document the findings. All children were provided with The Adventures of Muna storybook provided by The Safety Chic. Over the 4 weeks duration, the children had a pre-test, weekly training sessions, post-test, and group presentations. The presentations were so much fun as the children employed different creative methods of passing on the safety message to their peers. There were groups who made cardboard presentations, songs, drama presentations, and speaker presentations.

We are thankful to all the partners that supported us to make this happen. Thank you to Mrs. Monica Nwosu and Mr. Rotimi Eyitayo for their contributions to the project design. Thank you to our implementing partner, Dolly Children Foundation led by Dolapo Osuntuyi, our Project Manager, Fisayo Ajala, and all staff and volunteers who made this project work. Thank you to the Banuelos Family and NYU Changemakers for the support.

UProgramme graduates 4th Cohort

In 2020, UGIP Foundation reached out to the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH) in Kaduna for a possible partnership where we would train rehabilitated substance abuse users in different aspects of digital skills. Our efforts yielded results in 2021 when our letter was acknowledged and channeled to the relevant Consultants in the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Education and Research unit (DATER).

On Monday 21st March 2021, we conducted the opening ceremony where the participants were introduced to the officials of the Foundation and informed about the training. In the first week, we recorded 20 participants and in the second week, there were 26 participants. Participants were trained on digital skills such as social media marketing/management, Instagram marketing, graphic design and whiteboard Animation, and video editing to mention a few. As part of their assessment, they were required to perform certain tasks.

On the 14th of June, the training for the quarter was completed. Outstanding participants were presented with certificates by the Matron in Charge. Also in attendance were the Clinical Supervisor DATER, Dr.Nkereuwem Ebiti, the Program Manager, UGIP Foundation, Ms. Fisayo Ajala, the Facilitator UGIP Foundation, Mr. Korede Olafimihan and the Deputy Matron in charge DATER.

Our appreciation goes to the management of the FNPH Barnawa, Kaduna for the opportunity to create this positive change in the lives of these participants. A special thank you to the team of Consultants at DATER, Dr. Ebiti, Dr. Fajimolu, Dr. Oseghale, Dr. Hassan. We would like to appreciate the efforts of the Matron in charge and Deputy Matron in charge at the DATER ward. Your efforts are highly appreciated.

SAFEtober PROJECT 2021

Last week, we collaborated with some teachers of Teach for Nigeria to provide a #ChildSafety session as part of the International School Safety Month Campaign popularly known as SAFEtober. Our Super facilitator Fisayo Ajala joined the children virtually. She used our child safety story book #TheAdventuresOfMuna during the session. We are happy to receive the amazing feedback from that session. For us, we believe in equipping the child regardless of location or socioeconomic status.

The Adventures of Muna at Summer Camp

UGIP Foundation collaborated with Dolly Children Foundation to provide child safety storybooks and a training session with the children in Magboro Community. The session involved the author, Ugochi Obidiegwu reading some safety stories and teaching the children on practical tips. At the end of the session, there was a simulation where the children demonstrated how to manage choking through the steps they had learned. It was a pleasure putting smiles on the faces of the children.
